Narration

Japanese name
ナレーション

Narration is the use of a voice to explain or guide the audience through the situation, the information, or the story in video and audio content. It is often used as the voice of a narrator who never appears on screen.

Where it is used

In explainer videos, ads, documentaries, and company profiles, it fills in information that visuals alone cannot convey.

What to check when using it

If you layer music or sound effects underneath, secure a level and a frequency range that keep the voice clearly audible.

It is close to the term voice-over, but narration can point more strongly at the role of explaining and guiding.
