Minor Scale

Japanese name
マイナースケール

The minor scale is the basic set of notes used in a minor key. It is the foundation for impressions such as wistfulness, tension and calm.

The basic idea

The natural minor is the starting point, and depending on the song the harmonic minor and the melodic minor are used as well.

What to check when using it

A minor uses the same white keys as C major; they are relative keys. Listen for how the note that feels like the center differs.

Even when the notes are the same as a major scale, changing the key center changes where the song lands.
