Lead Sheet

Japanese name
リードシート

A lead sheet is a concise chart that centers on the main melody, the chord symbols, and the structure of the song.

How to use it

Instead of fixing the details of the accompaniment, it lets players perform using the chords and the structure as their guide.

How it differs from related terms

Where a score writes out each part in detail, a lead sheet is a chart for sharing the skeleton of a song.

For sessions and rehearsals, it also helps to write down the key and the ending.
