Condenser Microphone

Japanese name
コンデンサーマイク

A condenser microphone uses a light diaphragm, which makes it good at capturing fine detail and high-frequency nuance. It is widely used for vocals, acoustic instruments, and ambient recording.

The basic idea

Because it is highly sensitive, be aware that it also picks up room reflections and noise easily.

What to check before using one

Most require phantom power. Check the connections and the order in which you power things up before recording.

It suits more delicate recording than a dynamic microphone, but that does not make it always the better choice.
